Flight attendant caught pouring champagne back into the bottle may not be what you think

Traveling by plane is never easy, and we typically expect to see off-putting things happen on our flight from other passengers, not the flight attendants.

So it was a bit of a shock when Reddit user Fedor_Gavnyukov uploaded a video where he caught flight attendants seemingly doing something really gross.

The video shows an Emirates airlines flight attendant grabbing a half-drunk glass of champagne and pouring it back into its bottle before the camera quickly turns away.

It might look like a unhealthy offense, but it’s actually standard protocol.

Redditor users in the comments quickly chimed in to shed some light on the situation and explained that nothing bad would happen to the used bottle.

I watched a United stewardess start to pour drink waste into a water bottle thinking WTF, then she capped it and tossed it in the trash can so there was no liquid sloshing around.

As an airline employee… there is no way they are taking it for themselves or saving it for later (against health codes, employee rules…). She is almost certainly pouring the leftovers back into one container and then will go to the lavatory and pour it all down the sink at once.

Hey- I’m a flight attendant – what I think is going on here is that the attendant is probably pouring the unused champagne back in the bottle before take off to then dispose of once the plane takes off. we’re not allowed to pour things out while we’re on the ground. I bet they’re pouring it all back in the bottle so they can then pour it out at cruising instead of dumping it all in the trash can making it all soggy before takeoff… I could be wrong but realistically that’s probably what’s going on. being a flight attendant is all about efficiency and consolidating haha

Yes, it is very likely that champagne bottle was gonna be either returned or thrown away. Could have been a bad bottle. Could have been for the sake of liquid sloshing.
